Breathe on Me, Breath of God, and Give Me Peace

Beauty is the Beast 1

When my friend Ron H. and I were hiking, I saw this and knelt to take a picture of it. "Look how something so beautiful could come from something so ugly," he said. Only then did I look past the beauty of the petals to notice the (frightening) ugliness of the stems.

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." (John 20:19 TNIV)

Amazing photo! (Wish you'd identified the plant.) And what a great illustration of how the Lord can make something beautiful out of the twisted prickliness sin has produced in us. The Bible says He gives "beauty for ashes" (Isa. 61:3). Thanks for yet another memorable illustration.
