Lent, Day 23: We escaped with our lives like a bird from the fowler's snare; the snare was broken and we escaped.
If there is one activity in nature I'd like to do it is this - skim along the water as these birds are doing.
The 'snare was broken,' the psalmist sings, and 'we escaped.' Ours is a life lived from deliverance - we are set free from sin, from anxiety, from destiny, from appetite, from need, from so much. But we are set free for God, not for nothing and not for ourselves, but for God; and only in his love are we truly what we should be, are we free to take flight.
