The Phoenix rises...

From the front page of today's (March 20) Malibu Surfside News: "BLUE FIRE—Like a lost scene from “the Wizard of Oz,” a magnificent Technicolor blaze of wild lupin covers hillsides so recently blacked by fire. Lupin has a symbiotic relationship with nitrogen-fixing bacteria that allows it to thrive in burn areas, but even longtime residents who have witnessed the aftermath of many fires have been amazed at the incredible profusion of blossoms this year." I took these two photos on Corral Canyon. If you look closely, you can see the dead branches coming up in the picture that has the poppies. In the solitary lupin shot, the tree behind is charred by the November '07 fire. Nature continues to shout, "He is risen!"

Lupin! We've been calling them California Bluebonnets, for lack of any idea what they really were. Dig the pics, Ron.
